MetaSL® is a meta shading language designed to encompass the expressive power of all current and future shading languages and shading language standards.

MetaSL shaders and Phenomena are valuable and future-proof assets. They do not need to be re-authored for different target platforms.  These shaders can be compiled to render on target platforms, including CPUs (C++), GPUs (Cg, GLSL, HLSL) and other current and future platforms.  This eliminates the need to re-engineer and debug shaders and Phenomena for each platform.

RealityServer
RealityServer uses MetaSL as its only shading language. MetaSL is used as the shader language for rendering in both CPU and GPU modes, allowing for all shaders to be written once and used anywhere.

 

mental ray
Beginning with mental ray 3.7+ all future versions will support MetaSL shaders.

 

Autodesk 3ds Max 2010
3ds Max 2010 supports MetaSL shaders in its viewport rendering and its mental ray final rendering. 3ds Max 2010 also bundles mental mill Artist Edition as the node based shader authoring tool with its release.
