mental ray supports Windows Vista/XP platforms for both 32bit and 64bit versions, and Windows 2000. Furthermore, mental ray supports Apple Mac OS X Leopard/Tiger on Intel 32bit and 64bit. It also supports all major LINUX distributions on x86 and AMD x86-64 based platforms. mental ray supports major UNIX systems like Solaris from Sun Microsystems on Intel 32bit and 64bit platforms, and other systems and platforms upon request.
Standalone Version
The mental ray standalone version is a command line application that renders photorealistic images from the mental ray scene file format (.mi). It is also used on a rendering slave for network distributed rendering.

A developer version of mental ray is available from mental images and offered to third parties on an OEM/VAR basis for integration into a wide range of applications that require sophisticated and interactive rendering capabilities, like CAD, styling design, architectural design, visualization, and Intranet/Internet applications.
Demo Versions
A fully functional demo standalone version and a full API compliant demo developer version of mental ray 3.6 is contained in the CD-ROM that comes with the mental ray handbook 'Writing mental ray Shaders' vol.3.
