Class Description: Marble, Wax and Skin -- subsurface scattering
Intended for artists, this one-day class focuses on using the subsurface scattering shaders, both misss_physical and misss_*, spending quite a bit of time in the latter shader understanding how to set and mix the various subsurface scattering layers. We also cover translucency with the mia_material shader. Exercises within the 3D application provide hands-on practice with the material covered in lecture.
Class Prerequisites: Marble, Wax and Skin -- subsurface scattering
The minimum requirements for taking the class include:
- 1. Class 101 and 102, or equivalent experience using mental ray in one of the 3D applications (Maya, XSI/Softimage, 3ds max, etc.).
- 2. Strong familiarity with the shader UI in the 3D application
